Puzzle Pieces SL is organizing our annual fundraising event for the month of April 2024 in observance of Autism Awareness month. As per our usual efforts, 100% of all funds generated will be donated to schools helping children on the Autism Spectrum in Sierra Leone. Our overall objective is to continue to raise awareness about Autism and raise funds that will be used for special needs support at the selected schools in Sierra Leone.
There is limited inclusion and awareness of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and other developmental disorders such as ADHD, Dyslexia, Sensory Processing Disorders to name a few in Sierra Leone. In addition, there are limited resources and facilities to help children who have been diagnosed with these disorders.
In Sierra Leone, these children are not accepted into most traditional school settings and/or drop out of school simply because they learn differently than regularly developing children. Some are severely abused, bullied and there are those that society and communities (teachers, parents) give up on simply because they don’t believe they have what it takes to succeed.
